We are seeking Satellite Communications Systems Engineers to join our systems engineering team supporting robotic space missions. The candidate will focus on S-band space relay communication systems and cross-platform compatibility requirements. Core responsibilities include:
Requirements Development and Stakeholder Support: Support assessments of satellite communication concepts of operations for robotic missions and assist in translating stakeholder needs into system requirements and technical specifications
Interface Documentation and Compatibility Analysis: Review Interface Control Documents (ICDs) and technical specifications to ensure compatibility between robotic mission communication systems and NASA infrastructure
Integration and Test Support: Assist in planning, integration and test activities for robotic mission communication systems using S-band.
Technical Analysis and Reporting: Conduct technical analyses and trade studies, particularly related to commercial communication system performance and compatibility with legacy NASA systems, and document findings for engineering teams
Verification and Validation Planning: Support development of V&V plans for robotic mission communication systems, ensuring compliance with mission requirements and NASA interface specifications
Documentation and Review Support: Prepare technical documentation and support presentations for NASA lifecycle project reviews
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Aerospace Engineering, or similar field.
Experience: 5+ years of relevant satellite communications or RF systems experience or advanced degree.
Work Authorization: Applicants must be a U.S. citizen or Permanent Resident.
Role/Work Schedule
This is a full-time, on-site position in Cleveland, OH or Greenbelt, MD.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with RF communication systems design and analysis
- Knowledge of robotic mission communication requirements and constraints
- Familiarity with NASA’s Tracking Data Relay Satellite System (TDRSS) system capabilities and interfaces
- Experience with NASA Near Space Network (NSN) operations and protocols
- Understanding of RF link budgets, modulation techniques, and error coding for space applications
- Knowledge of ground station equipment and satellite communication standards
- Proficiency in verbal and written communication including articulating and presenting technical topics in a clear and concise manner to peers as well as executive level customer audiences.
