We are seeking Satellite Communications Systems Engineers to join our Spectrum management team. This role combines technical analysis, spectrum coordination, and system planning to ensure successful integration and operation of space communications networks. Core responsibilities include:
- Performing analyses to assess compatibility amongst radio frequency (RF) systems
- Developing slide decks and/or memoranda to summary interference analysis findings, including recommended options to mitigate instances of excessive interference
- Supporting development and integration of interference modeling and data analysis capabilities
- Participating in domestic and international spectrum management fora on behalf of [NASA] to coordinate spectrum requirements for new space systems, present technical studies to evaluate interference scenarios, and develop new reports and/or recommendations pertaining to space spectrum use
- Supporting continued maintenance of spectrum requirements and orbital characteristics data for space systems to be used in interference analyses
- Supporting development of spectrum architecture development and strategic planning to facilitate spectrum sharing amongst a diverse array of users
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Aerospace Engineering, or similar.
Experience: 2-10 years in a relevant industry or projects [applicable internships and undergraduate/graduate coursework will be considered]
Work Authorization: Candidates must be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident.
Role / Work Schedule
This is a full-time, on-site position in Greenbelt, MD.
Preferred Skills
- Knowledge of satellite orbital dynamics
- Familiarity with capabilities of NASA space communications networks (e.g. Space Relay (SR), Near Space Network (NSN), Direct to Earth (DTE), and Deep Space Network (DSN)) and/or commercial networks.
- Familiarity with behavior or Moon and Mars motion relative to the Earth.
- Knowledgeable in RF interference assessments involving space and/or terrestrial platforms.
- Familiarity with RF spectrum domestic and international regulations and recommendations pertaining to RF communications, navigation, and active and passive remote sensing – e.g., International Telecommunications Union (ITU), Federal Communications Commission (FCC), National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA), Consultative Committee for Space Data Systems (CCSDS), Space Frequency Coordination Group (SFCG)
- Familiarity with coding and scripting for engineering analyses using languages such as MATLAB, Python, and C#
- Proficiency in verbal and written communication including articulating and presenting technical topics in a clear and concise manner to peers as well as executive level customer audiences.
